Costs & Pricing 5 questions

How much do removals cost in Nottingham?+
Removal costs in Nottingham typically range from Β£400–£800 for a 2-bedroom home and Β£700–£1,500 for a 3–4 bedroom house, depending on distance, volume of items and any additional services such as packing or storage. At Mr Nice Removals we provide fixed-price quotes tailored to your specific move, so you know exactly what you will pay before we lift a single box.
How do removal companies calculate their prices?+
Removal companies price jobs based on the volume of items to be moved, the distance between properties, access conditions (flights of stairs, parking restrictions, narrow roads), and any additional services required such as packing, storage or furniture dismantling. At Mr Nice Removals we assess all these factors upfront and give you one clear, fixed price β€” no hidden variables, no hourly surprises.
Do you charge by the hour or a fixed price?+
We charge a fixed price, not by the hour. Many removal companies charge hourly, which can leave customers with unexpected bills if the move overruns. At Mr Nice Removals we assess your move in advance and agree a single price β€” so you can budget with confidence, knowing that price will not change on moving day.
Are there any hidden charges I should know about?+
None. Our quotes are fully transparent and all-inclusive. Equipment is included as standard β€” sofa covers, mattress covers, floor and door protection, furniture wrapping blankets and your complimentary moving checklist are all part of the job at no extra charge. What we quote is what you pay.
Can I get a removal quote online?+
Yes β€” the quickest way is to fill in our online quote form with a few details about your move. We will come back to you promptly with a tailored, fixed-price quote. You can also email us at support@mrniceremovals.com or call us on 0800 228 9786 or 0747 486 9990.

Booking & Availability 5 questions

How far in advance should I book a removal company?+
We recommend booking 2–4 weeks in advance to secure your preferred date, particularly for Saturdays which tend to fill up very quickly. Summer months (June–August) and end-of-month dates are our busiest periods. That said, we accommodate last-minute and emergency bookings whenever we can β€” if you need to move at short notice, give us a call on 0747 486 9990.
Do you work on weekends and bank holidays?+
Yes β€” we work Monday to Saturday, 7am to 7pm. Saturday is our most popular moving day. We can also accommodate Sunday moves and bank holidays by prior arrangement β€” contact us to check availability.
Can you do same-day removals in Nottingham?+
Yes, we offer same-day removal services subject to team availability. For urgent or same-day moves, call us directly on 0747 486 9990 or 0800 228 9786 and we will tell you straight away what we can do.
What happens if my completion date changes?+
Completion dates in a property chain can shift at very short notice β€” we understand how stressful this is. If your moving date changes, contact us as soon as possible and we will do our very best to rearrange to a date that works. We always try to be as flexible as possible for our customers.
How do I get a quote from Mr Nice Removals?+
Getting a quote is simple and there is no obligation. You can: (1) fill in our online quote form; (2) email support@mrniceremovals.com; or (3) call us on 0800 228 9786 or 0747 486 9990.

Moving Day 5 questions

Do I need to empty my drawers before the removal?+
For lighter items such as clothes and linens in chest of drawers, we can often move them as they are. However, heavier items such as books and files should be removed and packed into boxes. We recommend removing all clothing from wardrobes. Our team will happily advise you on the day.
How long does a house move take?+
The duration depends on the size of your home, the volume of items and the distance. As a rough guide: a 1-bedroom flat might take 2–3 hours; a 2-bedroom house 3–5 hours; a 3-bedroom house 5–8 hours; and a 4+ bedroom house with packing can be a full day or more. We give you a realistic estimated timescale with your quote.
What time do your removal team arrive?+
We operate from 7am onwards. Your exact start time will be agreed at the point of booking. We will confirm your arrival window the day before your move to make sure everything is on track.
Can I be at the property while you work?+
Absolutely β€” and most of our customers are present on the day. Being there means you can direct where items go in your new home. Our team are friendly, professional and fully DBS-checked, so you can feel completely comfortable having us in your home.
Should I tip the removal team?+
Tipping is entirely optional and never expected β€” our team are paid fairly and take genuine pride in delivering excellent service. That said, if your crew has gone above and beyond and you would like to show your appreciation, a tip is always gratefully received. Even a cup of tea and biscuits on moving day makes a world of difference!

Please report any concerns to us as soon as possible after the move and we will deal with the matter professionally, fairly and promptly.

Specialist Items 2 questions

Can you move a piano?+
We can move upright pianos and smaller grand pianos as part of a house move. Pianos require specialist handling due to their considerable weight and sensitivity. Please let us know about a piano when requesting your quote so we can ensure the right team and equipment are allocated.
Can you move plants?+
We can move most potted plants as part of a local move within Nottingham and the surrounding area. However, plants can be sensitive to movement and temperature changes, and we cannot guarantee their condition after transit. For delicate or valuable plants, we would recommend transporting them in your own vehicle.

Top 10 Moving Tips from Mr Nice Removals

Moving house is one of life's most stressful events β€” but with a little planning, moving day can actually be quite exciting. Here are our favourite tips from 12+ years of helping Nottingham families move.

1

Book Early β€” Especially for Saturdays

Saturday slots fill up weeks in advance, particularly in summer. Book your removal company as soon as you have an expected moving date β€” even if the exact date changes, you can usually rearrange.

2

Declutter Before You Pack

Moving is the perfect opportunity to clear out everything you no longer need. Sell, donate or arrange a clearance for items you are not taking β€” the less you move, the quicker and cheaper the job.

3

Pack a "Moving Day Essentials" Box

Pack one clearly labelled box with everything you will need on the day and the first night: kettle, mugs, phone charger, toilet paper, a change of clothes and any medications. Keep this with you β€” not in the van.

4

Label Every Box by Room and Contents

Clear labelling makes unpacking so much faster. Write the destination room on the top and sides of every box. Mark fragile boxes clearly on all sides.

5

Redirect Your Mail Early

Set up a Royal Mail postal redirection at least two weeks before your move date. Compile a list of everyone who needs your new address: bank, GP, DVLA, utility providers, HMRC.

6

Take Meter Readings on Both Ends

Photograph the gas, electricity and water meter readings at your old home before you leave, and at the new property as soon as you arrive. Send these to your energy suppliers immediately.

7

Plan for Children and Pets

Moving day is hectic β€” it is worth arranging for young children and pets to spend the day with a trusted friend or family member. This keeps them safe and lets the removal team work efficiently.

8

Check Your New Home Before the Team Leaves

Do a quick walk around both properties before signing off. Check all rooms, cupboards, the loft and garden of your old home to make sure nothing has been left behind.

9

Sort Out Parking in Advance

If you live on a busy or restricted street, contact your local council ahead of time to arrange a temporary parking suspension for the removal van. Nothing slows a move down more than having nowhere to park.

10

Give Yourself Breathing Space

Try not to fill the diary with other commitments on moving day or the day after. Start with the essentials (kitchen, beds, bathroom) and work through the rest over the first week. Be kind to yourself on the day.
